If you normally use reusable water bottles, congratulations--you have already taken a big step towards stopping the pollution caused by single-use plastic bottles. But you may have also noticed that over time your reusable bottles tend to smell bad, and after a long time even the water starts to taste weird. This is because there are germs in the water, which are not harmful to the human body, but are the cause of the bad smell and weird taste when they proliferate. To prevent your bottle from turning into a breeding ground for them, it is important to know how to properly clean a stainless steel water bottle and do it regularly, especially for the interior. There are several ways to do it--the traditional one, for which you will need a special cleaning brush, or a technological one.
DO STAINLESS STEEL BOTTLES LEAVE A TASTE?
18/8 stainless-steel bottles do not affect the taste of the water, while aluminum bottles, which are more economical, sometimes have a metallic taste.
The 18/8 stainless-steel bottles are made so that they do not give any flavor to the beverages. However, we recommend always washing them thoroughly after each use and leaving them open to dry out completely, unless you use a bottle with self-cleaning technology.
1. How to clean a stainless steel water bottle?
First, we need a bottle cleaning brush. Usually, the bottle has a small mouth, which is convenient for drinking, but not so much for cleaning. Therefore, you need a long, slim brush with which you can easily access the inside of your bottle. This is the only way to clean both the bottom and the walls properly. In addition, of course, you will need dishwashing soap and water.
From time to time, you can do a more thorough cleaning, especially if you also use your bottle for coffee or tea. To do this, use baking soda and vinegar. When these two products come into contact, they produce a fizzy reaction that helps to remove stains from the interior.
Ideally, the stainless-steel bottle should be washed after each use with a non-abrasive brush, preferably made of plant fibers.
Can you wash stainless-steel bottles in the dishwasher?
It is not advisable to clean stainless-steel bottles in the dishwasher, especially if they are colored or have prints on them, as the high temperatures can damage the design.
2. UV technology for cleaning stainless-steel bottles
Cleaning a reusable stainless steel bottle can be tiresome, especially if we carry it everywhere—to the office, the gym, or when we go hiking.
But did you know that there’s a simple solution to this? How about a portable sterilization system, using ultraviolet light, built right into the cap of the bottle? You can activate it and disinfect the water, along with the bottle interior, whenever and wherever you want, and all you need to do is touch a button. The UV light technology breaks the DNA of the bacteria and destroys them.
This type of smart bottle solves all the problems. Thanks to its UV-C self-cleaning technology, it eliminates the bacteria that cause odor and bad taste in the bottle.
3. What is UV-C LED sterilization technology?
The 280 nm UV-C LED technology has long been used in the sterilization of surgical equipment in hospitals and is ideal for eradicating germs. It is fast, effective, and has no mercury, ozone or other chemicals.
4. Do I really not need to clean my bottle ever again?
Yes, seriously! If you are fed up with the bad smell of your water bottle or having to clean it by hand all the time, a smart bottle with self-cleaning technology is an ideal solution. With a bottle like this you can purify your water anywhere, at any time, and all at the touch of a button. It's that easy--fresh water and a clean bottle!
5. Glo PURE BOTTLE: A bottle that cleans itself
At Glo, we know how important it is to drink enough water for good skin and health. We also know that it can be a challenge finding clean and fresh water when you are constantly on the move, especially for those that don’t want to purchase plastic bottled water. So, we made Glo PURE BOTTLE--a reusable stainless-steel bottle with a self-cleaning system.
The portable sterilization system is nested in the cap, taking up no extra space. At the same time, it is powerful enough to destroy 99.99% of the bacteria that cause bad smell and weird taste. The light works by breaking the chemical bonds of the DNA of the bacterium or virus (eColi, Salmonella…). And one single charge (through USB and takes about 2 hours) can last about 30 disinfection cycles, keeping the bottle clean and the water fresh.
HOW TO USE
This bottle is made of medical grade 18/8 stainless steel and is 100% BPA free. It keeps the water at the right temperature without losing one single degree (12h hot / 24h cold).
